  • Rehearsal time
    • Activity: Show Time! ~ With your small group, you will be in charge of teaching the class one scene. You can recreate this scene in whatever setting, time period, accent, etc...that you desire. The only trick is that you must maintain all the same meaning and detail that is carried in the original text. You may however, rewrite the script with modern language. Every partner must take an active role such as writer, director, prop designer, narrator, or actor. All scenes must be ready by Block Day. You will have 20 minutes to prepare that day. (Do not take an actor role if you won't be there.)
    • Scene 5.1 (pg.70) ~ 6 members
    • Scene 5.2 (pg.71) is very short and we will read it out loud.
    • Scene 5.3 (pg.72) ~ 6 members
    • Scene 5.4 (pg. 76) ~ 3 members
    • Scene 5.5 (pg.78) ~ 7 members
  
HW: Prepare whatever your group delegates to you. We will work more on this tomorrow. Do you need to bring any props?

  1. If you were directing this play and scene, what time period would you set it in? And where would this scene be? 
  2. How would you direct this scene to relate to our times? 
After watching...
  1.  Nelson Mandela chose 'Cowards die many times before their death;/The valiant only taste of death but once' as favorite lines. Ceasar says these lines. To whom in the play do you think they most apply?
  2. What example of a hand prop is given in the clip which shows how powerfully a prop can speak for a character? 
  3. What do the actors say is happening in the world today which makes Julius Caesar a play of our time?

ACT IV, SCENE I.
1. What are Antony, Octavius, and Lepidus doing at the opening of the scene?
2. Why do they want Caesar's will? What is ironic about this?
3. What is Antony's plan for Lepidus? What is his reason?

ACT IV, SCENE II.
4. What does Brutus tell Lucilius about dying love?
5. What practical instructions does Brutus give Cassius about their disagreement? What is unusual about this?
6. After reading Antony's interactions with his group and Brutus' interactions with his partner, do you notice any ironic similarities? Why would Shakespeare create this pairing of scenes back to back?

Roots & Confused Words Quiz will be moved to Monday. Study hard; it's the new format. Luckily, the quiz only covers roots we've learned since January. Starts at "lau" on the "Master Roots List."

  • Go over J15 Act 2, Scene 2 (You guys won't have the key, but you can talk it over together and back it up to the text to be sure about your answers.)
  • Read Act 2, Scenes 3 & 4
    • What can be seen about Caesar's Character in 2.3? Portia's in 2.4?

ACT III, SCENE I.
1. In regard to Artemidorus's request, how does Caesar's nobility doom him?
2. What is Metellus Cimber's petition to Caesar? What is Caesar's response and why does he give this response?
3. What does Brutus instruct the conspirators to do before they go public? Why does he instruct them to do this?
