Writing Contests

Assignment: Before third quarter is over, you must choose one contest to enter. The idea is that you get your work into a bigger pool and out of the vacuum of our little English class.

Some things to consider... Wouldn't it be amazing if you actually won a cash prize for your writing? What if you could write the fact that you are a published writer on your college transcripts? There are all kinds of ways to get in to the writing world. These are just a few starters. Be mindful of deadlines and entry fees. Many of these below are free and have upcoming deadlines. To get credit, you must simply show me the work you submitted and some sort of submission receipt/email.

A word of caution... There are plenty of "vanity contests" which really aren't contests at all, but rather people who first charge an entry fee, then send you an email of praise about your work so that they can then charge you an overpriced fee to put your work into a book with all the other suckers who bought into the charm. Avoid those ones please!

These are all free and legitimate entry points.
