  • Journal 16: Are you starting to see relationships in theme between Adelina and Juana chapters? Write a brief paragraph explaining the relationship between any two back-to-back chapters.

Tuesday 2/23 ~ How do Juana and Ama's situation fit into the cycle of poverty?

GRAMMAR
  • EQ: How do I get credit for the authors inside the text of my essay? A: Bedford 57 (see board)
  • Now look at the example research paper from Mr. Holtzclaw. Move it to Notability and scan through the essay. Highlight all in-text citations. 
IMMIGRATION RESEARCH
  • Journal 14: Look over your research question and your Annotated Bibliography. Write a thesis by answering research question, followed by 2-3 reasons why. These sentences will become your topic sentences.
  • You will have to write an essay in class on Block Day. (BTW-We have no school Friday so Wed and Thurs are our block days.) Be prepared with a solid thesis and topic sentences. You may want to review TIE method and the TIED paragraph structure. 
  • Here is the rubric for the in-class essay.

Copy this paragraph and work on the ordering of the sentences. What order should these sentences go in?
1. Krikorian says that he doesn't agree with immigrants “becoming an American just by them saying the oath of citizenship.” He believes that they should earn the right to serve in the armed forces by first forming their relationship with the United States.
2. The major question posed in this article is how people can expect illegal immigrants to fight for a country that is not theirs.
3. Author, Mark Krikorian is a nationally recognized expert on immigration issues and Krikorian has been the Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) since 1995.
4. More than 37,000 of green-card holders serve in the military account for about 3% of active-duty soldiers.

5. Krikorian states that they should avoid developing a mercenary army that is made up of illegal immigrants that are loyal to their countries.
