Block Day, August 16 ~ Summer Reading

For Starters...

Book Talk/Collage Presentations
  • EQ: Do you understand what a motif is and how an author uses it to convey meaning?
  • Get together with at least three other students who all read the same book and present your collages to each other.
      Discuss with the group...
  • what the book was about,
  • the motifs you found and their meanings,
  • what you did and did not like about it,
  • and how strong your recommendation would be for another person to read it.

Writing Sample
  • 3-4 strong paragraphs
  • Begin with a brief synopsis of the story. Then discuss in one or two paragraphs how the author developed a motif and what resulted from using it. Include at least two quotes to support your findings. End with a paragraph describing how strongly you would recommend this to another reader and why.
Activity
  • Two Truths and a Lie (if we have time)
